- THEODORE R. BJERKAN Passed away on October 26, 2005 at the age of 84. He was born to John and Hattie Bjerkan in Everett, Washington, and spent his youth in that lumber town. He loved playing basketball on his high school team and became a lifetime fan of the sport. Ted served in the U.S. Coast Guard in the South Pacific from 1939 to 1945, after which he was married to Celia Bishop of Evanston, Illinois. Ted attended the Northwestern University Kellogg School of Business. After graduation, he and Celia moved to the San Francisco Bay Area where he began a career in retailing and then spent 32 years in the wholesale beverage industry. Ted enjoyed life and family, was optimistic, and never confessed to feeling less than "Terrific!". He loved to travel and experience the varied cultures the world has to offer. He was a Little League coach, played tennis for many years, and enjoyed card games and bicycling. He appreciated the small pleasures: a walk, a cappuccino, conversations with friends, a good book (preferably historical), a dive into cold water on a hot day. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and a good friend to many. Ted is survived by his wife of 60 years, Celia; daughters Wendy Dunagan (John) of Spring Green WI, and Kristen Riehl (Norman) of Simi Valley, CA; sons Jay (Peggy) of St. Helena, CA., and Reid (Cathy) of Snowflake, AZ; grandchildren John David Dunagan (Heather), Brian Dunagan, Leif Bjerkan, and Elise Bjerkan; great grandchildren Lavinia and Owen Dunagan; his sister Ruth Frantz, Edmonton, Canada. He is fondly remembered and missed by all. Memorial services will be private.
