- Oliver G. Olson was born in Columbus, North Dakota, on February 4, 1904, the son of Carl and Hannah (Hanson) Olson. The family moved to Osakis, Minnesota, when Oliver was seven years old, and he attended school in Osakis until his graduation in 1919. Following graduation, he worked on threshing teams in North Dakota for several summers.
While in North Dakota he met and married Evelyn Witsoe at Williston, North Dakota, on December 15, 1927. They farmed in North Dakota and then moved to Pontiac, Michigan, where he worked for General Motors. Later they moved to Osakis and in 1933 to the Alexandria area. Oliver died on Thursday, July 14, 1983, at the Douglas County Hospital at the age of 79 years.
He is survived by wife: Evelyn Olson of Alexandria; sons: Orris Olson, Rueben and wife Karen Olson; Dennis and wife Judy Olson all of Alexandria; daughter: Mrs. James (Charlene) Stutelberg of Benson; sisters: Mrs. George (Minnie) Johnson of Osakis and Mrs. Alvin (Selma) Piepho of Fergus Falls.Also surviving are five grandchildren. Oliver was preceded in death by his parents and sister Hilda.
Funeral services were Monday, July 19, 1983 at 10:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, Alexandria, Minnesota with Rev. Philip Westby officiating. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery, Alexandria, Minnesota.
Pallbearers were Kent Olson, Kevin Olson, Rob Olson, Martin Lochen, Ray Eastlund and Ordean Johnson.
Honorary pallbearers were Wilbert Klimek, Oscar Jobe, Fritz Inwards, Brian Eastlund, Oscar Henningsgaard, Ray Foss, Orrin Anderson, Silas Witsoe and Hans Hanson.
Organist was Erling Rolfsrud and soloist was Mrs. Ray Walther.
Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home.
