- Evelyn M. Olson was born in Hanks, North Dakota August 9, 1909, the daughter of Rasmus and Betha Thompson Witsoe. As an infant she was baptized into the Christian faith and confirmed at the Lutheran Church near Hanks. Evelyn attended rural school at the Witsoe School in Fertile Valley Township and was later employed at the General Store in Hanks. She also worked as a cook for threshing crews in the area. Evelyn and Oliver G. Olson were united in marriage December 15, 1927 at Williston, North Dakota and farmed for a year before moving to Pontiac, Michigan. Two years later the couple returned to Osakis where Oliver had been raised. In 1934 the family moved to Alexandria where they farmed until semi-retiring in 1967. They then were able to spend 10 enjoyable winters in Arizona. Evelyn and Oliver were longtime members of First Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Oliver died in 1983 and Evelyn became a resident of Bethany Home in 1991. throughout her life, she had many interests and liked sewing, fishing, doing handwork and playing cards.
Evelyn died at Bethany Home, October 10, 1993 at the age of 84. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 10 brothers and sisters, and one step-grandson.
Surviving are her children: Clariene and husband Jim Stutelberg of Benson; Orris and wife Janice Olson of Alexandria; Reubin and wife Karen Olson of Alexandria; Dennis and wife Judy Olson of Alexandria; two sisters: Thelma (Mrs. Gurvis) Johnson of Seattle, WA; Viola (Mrs. Hans) Hanson of Tioga, ND; five grandchildren; one great grandchild; 10 step-grandchildren; and 13 step-great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held October 13, 1993 at First Lutheran church of Alexandria with Rev. Ron Otterson and Rev. Keith Lentz officiating. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery with Oren Anderson, Ordean Johnson, Kent Olson, Kevin Olson, Rob Olson, Roy Foss, Daniel Moore, Joan More, Jessica Olson, Owen Thoennes, Tague Thoennes and Don Kleine serving as pallbearers.
