From World Connect:
Sarah Oddan, who was the daughter of Ole and Berit Oddan, married Gabriel Skogrand in Norway, in 1873. One year later they immigrated to the United States with their daughter Matte, and Mrs Skogrands aunt, Mrs Ole Blom. The ocean voyage caused Sarah Skogrand and Mrs. Blom much discomfort, but Gabriel Skogrand and Matte made the trip feeling quite well.
The homestead was established the first year about three miles south of Hagen. The planting of crops was not accomplished the first year so Gabriel worked with other farmers. One winter while still a young girl, Sarah Skogrand went to visit some friends living on the Alfred Blom farm. She made the journey on skiis. She had a great time until going home when a strap broke . Her attempts at repair went to naught and she made the long track back home by walking in the deep snow.
Another time Mrs. Skogrand was given a ride to a Ladies Aid by Mrs. Henry Blom. On the way was a run away by the horses. There was a great amount of confusion and they were in and out of the buggy several times........however when they arrived at the home of the hostess, Mrs. Blom was still holding a bag of candy in her hand that had been there from the beginning."
