Otness
Randi Otness, 97, of 1418 Ave. E., died Tuesday morning
at Yellowstone County Nursing Home.
She and her husband, John A. Otness, homesteaded near
Sidney in 1910. They had traveled to the
homestead by immigrant train,and ferried across the Missouri
River with all of their posses-sions on a horse-drawn hayrack.
She was a member of Pioneers of the West, and the Lutheran Church.
She was born Dec. 31, 1879 in Trondheim, Norway, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nils O.
Neergaard. When she was three years old, her family settled near Underwood, Minn, where
she attended schools. She furthered her education at Fergus Falls, Minn., to teach in
eastern North Dakotan schools.
She was married Jan. 21, 1903, in Fergus Falls. They farmed until her husband's death in
1943.
She lived for two years with a son in Renier National Park,
Wash.. and then made her home with a daughter at Watford City, N.D., and in Dickinson,
N.D.
They moved to Billngs in 1961.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Lloyd R. Good, of 1418
Ave. E.; two sisters, Mrs. Carl Iverson of Underwood. Minn. and Mrs. Anna Bollinger of
Wolford, .D.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Johannes "John" Andersen Otness was christened on 23.Jul.1871 in Aure Kirke, Aure, MR.
He was confirmed on 02.Oct.1887 in Otnes Kirke, Valsøyfjord, MR. He emigrated from USA
in 1893. He was buried in 1943 in Sidney Cemtery, Sidney, Richland, MN, USA.
