- Donald E. Ronning, 53, 202 W. Cedar, died Wednesday, Dec. 16, at Lake Region Hospital. Services will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, at Augustana Lutheran Church with Rev. Richard Kennedy officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery.
One of four children, he was born June 26,1928, at Appleton to Melbert and Emelia Ronning. He grew up at Appleton and graduated from high school in 1946. Enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in 1947, he was stationed at Hawaii. He was discharged in 1950.
On Aug. 25,1948, he married Dorothy Samuelson at Appleton. He worked with Great Northern Railroad, Willmar, prior to attending college in Boulder, Colo. He graduated in 1964 with a degree in civil engineering. Coming to Fergus Falls in 1966, he began employment as city engineer. Except for a three-year period, when he operated an engineering consulting business and was a city engineer in Kansas, he held that position until his death.
He had been a member of the Elks, Kiwanis, and a number of engineering professional organizations. A member of Augustana Lutheran Church, he had served as a church council member and Sunday school teacher.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy; eight children, Gloria, Timothy, Caren, Scott, Jeffrey, Carol, Kae and Donald, all of Fergus Falls; and two sisters, Mrs. Dale (Evelyn) Perry, Appleton, and Mrs. Vern (Lyla) Chamberlain, Spokane, Wash.
Visitation is from 1 to 9 p.m. today, continuing tomorrow morning at Olson Funeral Home.
Visitation resumes at the church one hour prior to services tomorrow afternoon.
