- Mrs. George A. Knittel, 74, 217 19th St., Sioux Apartments, was found dead Tuesday morning at her residence of an apparent heart attack. Dr. Coriden, county coroner, estimates time of death as Monday night. Mrs. Knittel, the former Lila Irene Brooks, was born Jan. 18, 1905, at Evart, Mich. She married Carl O. Gunderson Oct. 15, 1921, at Hecla, S. D. She married Mr. Knittel July 3, 1956, at South Sioux City. Both are deceased. They lived near Irene, S. D. until 1931 when they moved to Hartington, Neb. She came to Sioux City in 1944. Survivors include three sons, Gerard Gunderson of Sioux City, Carl Gunderson of Phoenix, Ariz. and James Gunderson of South Sioux City; six daughters, Mrs. Johnnie (Edna) Smith of Phoenix, Mrs. Don (Ida) Junck of Sioux Falls, S. D., Mrs. Marvin (Doris) Shadbolt of Jefferson, S. D., Mrs. Gary (Joyce) Rhine of Emerado, N. D., Mrs. Melvin (Norma) Menard of Commerce City, Colo., and Mrs. Karen Stockham of Sioux City; two brothers, Carl Hubert of Hecla and Otto Hubert of Aberdeen, S. D.; 39 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. The Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
