- Sean Joseph Witsoe, 5, of Evansville, passed away at home on Saturday, April 3, 2010, after a one and a half year battle with a cancerous brain tumor. He was treated at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.
Sean attended pre-kindergarten at St. Benedict School. He loved playing with his brothers and sister and his 'special nurses' at St Jude. He was a huge fan of the Pixar movies, Cars and Wall-E. He especially loved Lightning McQueen, Mater, Wall-E, and Eva. Sean's story inspired the initiation of the St. Jude Give Thanks Walk in Dallas, Texas. With the "Strong like Sean" team, this event was the top Give Thanks Walk fundraiser in the United States for 2009, raising over $170,000 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital .
Surviving are his parents, Craig and Katie Witsoe; a brother Connor Witsoe; a sister, Anna Witsoe; a brother, Ian Witsoe; and a twin brother, Matthew Witsoe. Also surviving are his grandparents, George and Rita Stewart of Albertville, AL and David and Audrey Witsoe of Nordland, WA; and his aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at Ziemer Funeral Home North Chapel, 6300 North First Avenue, and continued from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in the County, 6202 West St. Joseph Rd.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in the County with Fr. Eugene Schroeder Officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital on behalf of Sean Witsoe.
