- Karen Stromstad, 73 of Beltrami, MN died on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at the Fair Meadow Nursing Home, Fertile, MN.
Karen Ruth Reise, was born January 5, 1944 to Julius and Mary (Kaggerud) Reise. She grew up in Davenport, ND and was baptized and confirmed at Davenport Lutheran Church. She attended school in Davenport and graduated from Davenport High School and was remembered for saying that she would never marry a farmer. After high school she attended Interstate Business College and was employed by St. Lukes Hospital. She then worked for the First National Bank and Trust Company, Fargo, ND.
On August 31, 1968 Karen married Allan Stromstad at the Norman Lutheran Church, Kindred, ND. They lived on the Stromstad family farm, Beltrami, MN, where they made their home for the next 49 years and raised their three sons.
Karen was a loving wife and partner to her husband and devoted mother to her sons, Jon, Paul and Darin. She was also an active member of Scandia Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school and served with the ladies group.
Karen enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, decorating her home and spending time with her family and friends. Karens home was always open to those that stopped by. No one left without food and a kind word. In May of 1996, she suffered a cerebral hemorrhage limiting the many interests and activities she enjoyed in the years that followed.
Karen had a gentle way about her, she had a soft heart for people, especially children. In the years following the trauma, many kind and loving people returned the love that Karen had shown her whole life. She was especially touched by seeing and spending time with her grandchildren. There are countless individuals that have visited Karen, worked with her and checked in with the family regarding her health. Karen and her family want to thank this large and extended community of people for their love and support.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Allan; three sons, Jon Stromstad, Paul (Danell) Stromstad and Darin (Brandi) Stromstad; six grandchildren; four sisters: Clara (Eugene) Edwardson, Alta (Mel) Zepper, Julie Baumler, and Mona (DeWayne) Streyle, and one brother; Bob (Mikel) Reise.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Clarence Reise and two brothers-in-law, George Hanna and Ray Baumler.
