- Minver Hegstad was born on May 8, 1921 in Slayton, Minnesota to Ole and Mary Anderson Hegstad. He grew up in Slayton and attended grade school in Slayton and the Slayton High School. Minver then worked for Skouge Dairy in Slayton. He entered the U.S. Navy in July of 1942 and served during WWII as a motor mechanist mate and landing craft operator in the South Pacific on a troop transport ship for most of his service. Minver was united in marriage to Delrose Heydluff on August 18, 1942 in Sanborn, MN. After his honorable discharge in October of 1945 he returned to Slayton and worked at the Worthmore Creamery for a short time. Minver and Cy Koob then started and operated Koob Implement. Minver later bought Cy out and changed the business name to Hegstad Equipment. As the business grew, he added several automobile lines and eventually phased out the equipment side of the business. In 1972 Minver sold the business to his employees. Minver worked at Hegstad Equipment for several years after selling the business. Minver passed away at the Murray County Hospital in Slayton on March 8, 2007 at the age of 85. He was a lifelong member of Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton. He also was a member of the Slayton American Legion Post. Minver enjoyed walking, working in the garage, reading and watching TV. In his earlier days he enjoyed traveling and camping. He was very good at building and fixing things around the house.
Survivors include his wife, Delrose of Slayton; one son, Michael Hegstad and his wife, Jan of San Diego, CA; son-in-law, Russell Seeklander of Marshall, MN; two grandsons, Thomas and Ryan Hegstad of San Diego, CA; two sisters, Doris Essman and her husband, Melvin of Luverne, MN and Nona Walter of Jasper, MN and one brother-in-law, Jim Jones of Spirit Lake, IA. He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Patricia Seeklander, sister, Juanita Jones and brother-in-law, John Walter.

Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton, MN on Sunday, March 11, 2007 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Ted Kunze officiating. The organist is Twyla Hungerford. The soloist is Heidi Winter. Pallbearers are Jim Dahmer, Ron Nelson, Roger Nelson, Robert Nelson, Scott Walter, David Essman, Randy Wynia and Jim Gleis. Interment at Slayton Memorial Gardens, Slayton, MN.
