Clifford Leroy Ness, 92, of Bemidji, died on Friday, Nov. 3, 2006, at Clearwater County Memorial Hospital in Bagley.
A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at Trinity Free Lutheran Church in Pony Lake with Rev. William Goodman officiating. A visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. today at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home of Bemidji, and will continue one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Trinity Free Lutheran Cemetery near the church.
Clifford Leroy Ness was born November 20, 1913 in Canby, MN to Ole and Christine (Hofseth) Ness. He moved to Bemidji with his family at the age of four. He attended school at Pony Lake. During his working life Clifford was a farmer, a truck driver, a logger, and a school bus driver. In 1939 he also trained as a diesel mechanic in Seattle, WA. He was a factory worker at Nu-Ply, where he worked until his retirement in 1976. Clifford married Esther Nelson on May 11, 1940 in Pinewood, MN. Esther died in 1996. Clifford married Gertrude Reierson on August 23, 1997 in Bemidji.
He was an active member of Trinity Free Lutheran Church. He also enjoyed and hunting, fishing, traveling, and any activity involving cars and trucks - driving them, fixing them, or discussing them with friends. He took pride in telling the story of his trip in a Model T Ford from Bemidji to Seattle, WA.
Clifford is survived by four sons: David Ness, Cadiz, OH, Donald Ness, Minneapolis, MN, and Gerald Ness and Arthur Ness, both of Bemidji; daughter Janet Nervick of Minneapolis; three grandchildren and two great granddaughters; his brother John Ness of Bemidji; and niece Janet Rancour of Scottsville, NY.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wives Esther and Gertrude, and sisters Gladys and Jenive.
